In 2016 I attended a one day pottery course at the local adult college. After that I was hooked and signed up to the Pottery course which involved one morning a week learning to throw, turn and glaze, and week by week improve technique and learn the ebasics of teh craft of pottery.

In 2017 I got my own wheel and set up a shed in my garden to allow me to spend more time learning and perfecting the imperfect and unpredictable art of ceramics.

During that time, a conversation with a local artist friend led to a walk out at low water to search for clay deposits only exposed at low tide amongst the rocks and sandbanks of the East coast of the island. After discovering and returning to shore with a sample of the clay from the seabed, I set about filtering and processing the clay. After much experimentation with firing and working with the clay, I learned how to work with and utilise its qualities.

Using local Jersey clay I produced a series of ceramic pieces, ranging from decorative to functional pots and vases. Which I exhibited at a local gallery alongside fellow amateur artist. The exhibition was a great success with many of my pieces sold and this gave me the confidence to commit full time to my passion for ceramics and the possibility of starting my own studio. Since then I have exhibited my work and continued to sell and develop my range of decorative and functional pieces made from Jersey clay to local and visiting clients.

In May this year, I was joined by the producers from Channel 5 to feature in a series celebrating the beauty and heritage of the Island, following lives of residents. The series ‘Jersey & Guernsey will begin airing on June 15th at 8pm.

I am also working on three ‘Percent for Art’ projects, developing large scale permanent artworks to be installed on building developments currently in progress.
